If one destination epitomises a 'path less travelled', it is this expedition to the continent of Antarctica. Nowhere else on earth is it so fresh, so light and so pristine. The population of wild-life is extroadinary: fur seals, sea lions, whales, huge flocks of giant petrel and shearwater… rarely will an hour pass without some spell-binding sight. Our voyage covers some of the Polar Regions famously chartered during the first race to the South Pole by pioneering explorers Scott and Shackleton 100 years ago.

The Ross Sea coast extends from the ice shelf northwards until it reaches the very tip of Victoria Land and Cape Adare. During our time in the Ross Sea Region we will attempt a variety of opportunistic landings, subject to weather conditions. Joining guests and the specialist Expedition Team onboard Orion will be renowned scientist and media presenter Dr Karl Kruszelnicki. While onboard, Dr Karl will share his wealth of knowledge with guests through a series of fabulously entertaining and witty talks presented in his inimitable style.

Although our itinerary to the extreme sub-Antarctic and Antarctic regions is based on many years of collective experience, prevailing weather and ice conditions in this area of the world are unpredictable, mother nature dictates our course. These are not cruises they are true expeditions to what can be the most inhospitable region on earth. Bring with you a spirit of adventure and flexibility.
